LO1: Graphics work from 3 describing the different companies.

V fest magazine ad

Purpose: The purpose of these media are to advertise the Virgin music festival. the posters, flyers and tickets all follow a set house style, of mostly purple and the red of the Virgin logo mixed in. The flyer is for advertising at similar events as it will attract the right audience. the tickets are to be kept and held as a memory of the event, hopefully to draw people back. the last piece would probably be decorative at the event itself

Format: The products span flyers, posters and tickets. this gives them a good diversity of media and exponentially increases advertising potential.

Content: Contains logo, dates and times as well as a small variety of graphics design pieces.

Style: For the flyer, very minimal graphic design work, essentially just text. Asides from the Virgin logo there are no other graphics on the piece. uses contrasting colours to stand out.

Layout: Very simple layout. The logo is central and all other text is aligned to the left. the name of the concert and the logo dominate half the advert. The ticket is colourful and designed with aesthetics in mind, the same as the festival poster.

Target audience: This would likely have been published in a music magazine or similar media. This is appealing to people who enjoy music and can go to the festival.

Regulatory bodies: Under the ASA regulations, this breaks no boundaries. There are no offensive terms or images used.

Doc fest 2014 flyer

Purpose: This is a flayer handout, bag and logo for the sheffield Doc fest.

Format: The product is an A5 flyer, probably found in clubs or stands. Designed to be left on display for others. The bag is a user advertisement and memorabilia for people who went to the event.

Content: The product bears a large logo and title as well as a large amount of text describing the different events at doc fest and the dates they are held

Style: Using pink as it's primary colour helps to make the product stand out. The bold logo helps maintain brand identity and all necessary information is obscured. this can be viewed with further examination of the product, meaning that all things required to initially draw attention can be seen

Layout: The front cover is dedicated to a massive logo and bold title, making it stand out. The second half is a simple block of text.

Target audience: Considering that this flyer would be found separately and not part of another media, the advert is likely for people who have already expressed an interest in Doc Fest or have heard of the event and require information

Regulatory bodies: Under ASA standards and regulations this does not violate any of their policies.

Tramlines poster

Purpose: This poster is to advertise the Tramlines festival event

Format: A poster to be displayed in a public place

Content: Contains large amounts of information including dates, days, locations and headline acts

Style: Uses minimal graphics, simple design, large amounts of condensed information.

Layout: A basic layout, title graphic displayed at the top of the page and left aligned text for all information displayed.

Target audience: All members of the public as it is on public display, especially people who are interested in the music festival

Regulatory bodies: Does not violate any part of the ASA's regulations

Slim milk advert
Comic sexual/ offensive behaviour. Misleading and could be misread as sexist and possibly offensive to women by promoting sexualisation as a necessity and a possitive.

The slim milk advert could be seen as offensive. It slightly objectifies women, saying they just want to be attractive and how they should look.

Copyright law: 'Copyright' is a legal concept, enacted by most governments, giving the creator of an original work exclusive rights to it, usually for a limited time

This means that it is illegal to use or copy work that has been copyrighted without the creator's/licence holders permission'

Today with the proliferation (Rapid increase) and speed of file transfer over the internet and mobile technologies the issue of copyright has become more of a problem.

Essentially, copyright stops people from stealing original works, however this does not prevent parodies, pastige and homages (copying for comedic effect)
Pirate sites
Examples: Watch32.com, LimeWire.

Creative commons: A website where global media is shared, free of copyright infringement.

What to consider:
wether we can copy or use certain works, what to create originally and what to take from CC.

LO1 Task 1: KTA 3/5 Five pieces of Graphic Design-Full analysis

Piece 1: Firefly Music festival

Target Audience and purpose: People interested in going to perhaps a slightly more sophisticated music event and to advertise the Firefly music festival.

Firefly is a smaller music event held in a forest clearing in Herefordshire.
Format: This is a computer graphic designed as the promotional logo for Firefly.

Content: In terms of overall content, there is very little. it doesn't need any large amount of other content asides from the logo assets. the logo itself isn't exactly simple. overall, general content is kept at a minimum. simple text and designed images.

Style: This logo is very much defined by its style. the very artistic and sweeping nature of the piece along with the blaze of orange at the end of the text really makes it stand out as an exceptional logo.

Location: This graphic would be displayed on every medium produced by Firefly, websites, flyers, posters etc.

Piece 2: Wedfest ticket 2013

Target Audience and purpose: The tickets design suggests a less hardcore audience and is appealing to a wider audience than a select few. The purpose of the product is to advertise the festival, however people in possession of a ticket are likely already sold on the festival.
Format: This piece is a ticket for the festival. It's colourful design is so that the purchaser is more inclined to keep it as a souvenir, and hopefully relay to their friends information about the event

Content: This piece packs in a lot of content, especially considering it's size and format. A heavy amount of text gives a good impression of required information. Dates, bands, titles, even the RSVP logo to the left.

Style: creating a style for a ticket can be difficult, as there is only a very small area to work in. This piece has gone the right way, bold lines very much dominate the art style, very much like a sunrise or similar effect. the bright colours give it a more child friendly feeling, more appealing to a general audience.

Location: This would be given to people already going to the concert who have paid for it, so it is unlikely to be located anywhere other than the owners pocket.

Piece 3: Folk Cape and Town flyer

Target audience and purpose: The flyer is appealing to an older audience, people more interested in the style of music. It is designed to publicly advertise the festival.
Format: This is a flyer, as shown by the image it is made purely for advertising and promotional purposes, designed to be left in a public place.

Content: A good level of content presented here. this medium is a little larger than the previous one, allowing for more information to be placed on the piece. This includes a considerably more detailed band listing, larger title and several sponsor logos at the bottom of the flyer

Style: The flyer is excellently stylised, an old, rustic feel. Heavy lines and text however, give it a more modern feel on top of that as well as making the whole piece stand out considerably. that is aided by the colouring. While not particularly original, the colour red helps draw attention.

Location: This, as seen in the picture would be displayed in a public place with the hopes of getting noticed.

Piece 4: Glasgowbury Music festival poster

Target audience: Given its vibrant design, it's likely designed for younger to mid aged people looking for an exciting and colourful event.

This poster is designed to be appealing and eye-catching. its bold text and bright colours appeal to all ages as its design is naturally attention grabbing to the human eye

Format: This is a public advertisement for all, it would likely be A3 and placed in a public area, but more likely in another concert or club, as it is more likely that people going to such an event would want to go here too.

Content: Being the largest format of all five pieces, it makes sense that this would pack in the most information and content. A large title and enormous logo dominate the top of the page, followed by an incredibly expansive band listing that takes up the mid section of the poster. and finally, what is likely legal information is displayed at the bottom of the page.

Style: The poster has a style akin to a fountain or waterfall, the text is in a slight pyramid shape, leading up to a logo inspired by an explosion.

Location: While similar to the flyer, it is more likely that this would be displayed in a previous event or at a club so as to attract the correct target audience.

Piece 5: Bonnaroo Music festival

Target audience purpose: Given the design of the poster, it is likely aimed at an older target audience, as it is not nearly as 'flashy' as posters designed for young audiences.

Format: This is a public advertisement poster to be displayed in a well populated public area so as to catch peoples attention regularly.

Content: The poster  needs to stand out, and due to its size it is able to pack in a good amount of information. it has a large eye catching title, a detailed band list and a lot of small print at the bottom of the poster.

Style: The style of the poster is a car covered in travel tickets, and each of the tickets holds a band name. While not a particularly original design, this style perhaps appeals to older audience given it's gentle colour scheme and easy to interpret design.

Location: Being another poster, this would also be found in a variety of locations, but similarly would probably be found on a concert hall or stadium, so as to attract the right audience.

Officially, non of these advertisements break the rules set by the ASA in terms of advertising codes.
